Tips for Fall: The House!

Categories: Oxi Fresh News

Here we are again with Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning‘s  third post in its Fall Tips series, and today we’ll be talking about preparing your home for Autumn. Since there is an almost endless number of thing you can do, we’ve decided to create a checklist for only on the most important tasks – so let’s begin!

Yay.
Yay.

1. Take Care of the Gutters

Here’s something no one wants to do, clean their gutters. It’s not fun, you’re on a roof or ladder, and it’s cold out – the perfect combination for a miserable chore. Unpleasant as this is, it’s very necessary. Clean gutters will allow any snow melt to drain away which will help prevent ice buildup.

2. Remove Window Screens

Autumn is a good time to remove and clean your window screens. Taking them off now helps extend their life and, if you clean them, you’ll be looking at one less job for your Spring Cleaning.

3. Chim-Chimney Cleaning

If you have a chimney that you use regularly, make sure you have it cleaned and inspected sooner rather than later. You want to make sure everything’s ready to go for the holidays, or you may end up being smoked out of your home after you tried to make a Christmas Eve fire.

4. Check the Furnace

In a similar vein, be sure to have your furnace cleaned and inspected, otherwise you may end up with some very cold nights.

5. Turning the Hose/Sprinklers Off

With cold temperatures coming quickly, you need to be sure to shut off and drain any external pipes – like a garden hose pipe – and remove any garden hoses. If you have a sprinkler system, have it drained/blown out soon to avoid any problems if there is a snap-freeze.

Have fun!
Have fun!

6. Garage Work

If you have any gas-powered tools that will be resting throughout Fall and Winter, now’s a good time to drain their gas, change their oil, and give them a thorough cleaning. You should also spend some time cleaning the rest of your tools, sweeping out the garage, and tidying things up.

You should also check to make sure you have all your Winter tools ready to go, like shovels, salt, and – if you have one – the snow blower. You don’t want to be stuck after a snowstorm because you can’t clear your driveway.

7. General Cleaning

This one’s a no brainer, but important nonetheless. You’ll be stuck inside for several months come Winter, so give your home a thorough cleaning beforehand and keep it tidy throughout the cold months. It’s a good idea to schedule carpet cleaning company to come out before the holidays, and if you’re looking for a green carpet cleaner, look no further than Oxi Fresh!
