CEO Jonathan Barnett Finds Success with Oxi Fresh
Lakewood, CO – Not many can say they have accomplished a lot in their lives in their 20s. Jonathan Barnett, MBA and the founder of Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning®, however, can say this with pride. He noticed his passion for business early on in life and started three different successful businesses before the age of 30.
Barnett started his college career in 1999 at Oral Roberts University, where he studied Business Administration. Even then, in 2000 while studying, his entrepreneurial spirit could not be contained, and he opened his own summer business, “Johnny B’s Fireworks.” He not only created a successful business that helped him pay his way through school, but also developed multiple locations and ended up selling when he graduated.
That wasn’t enough to keep him busy though, and he started playing basketball for Oral Roberts during his undergraduate career. His experience with the team and his faith led him to create Crossover International, a non-profit basketball ministry that takes Christian athletes overseas to build relationships and participate in games against professional club teams. As of 2010, Crossover has been on eleven tours of Europe in seven countries, has held twenty camps, and played more than one hundred games. Barnett still serves Crossover as the Chairman of the Board.
After graduating early, he pursued a graduate career at Colorado Christian University, which he finished in 2005. The same year he also purchased a professional basketball franchise in the International Basketball League (IBL), naming it the Colorado Crossover, which he owned for two seasons. The experience increased his interest in franchising, an interest which came to fruition in Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning.
When we asked Jonathan about why he chose carpet cleaning, he told us that “In graduate school I discovered that carpet cleaning companies were netting millions a year – but the thing that excited me the most was that I knew there was a better and greener way to clean carpets. This belief motivated me to create a successful, national brand.”
In 2006, he founded Oxi Fresh Franchising Co. Using innovative products and technology, Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning® offers oxygen powered cleaning, which cleans all the way down to the bottom of the carpet pile with a dry time of only one hour. By the end of 2006 he had sold 21 franchises in five states. The following year, he had a total of 79 franchises in 23 states. In 2009 over 134 franchises were sold in 37 states. In 2010 the Franchise Business Review ranked Oxi Fresh #7 in their Franchisee Satisfaction Awards, a ranking system they developed for the top 50 franchises in the U.S.
“Oxi Fresh started as a local carpet cleaner and has expanded into a national award-winning carpet cleaning franchise that has succeeded despite difficult economic times,” said Barnett. “This is not just because of the ‘green’ approach to carpet cleaning services, but due to our team and franchisees, who have worked hard to keep the Oxi Fresh brand a growing and strong force in the carpet cleaning industry.”
