Understanding Your Carpet

Oxi Fresh puts obvious stress on carpet cleaning – it’s kind of our thing, after all. We’re good at getting rid of grime, dirt, oils, and other debris, making old, gross carpets look and feel fresh. By removing impacted debris, we also help increase the lifespan of your carpets by years, saving you money down the road. All of this goes to say that carpet is an important part of you home and Oxi Fresh is the best when it comes to maintaining it.

Yet, despite the importance of maintaining carpet, few people know what kind of carpet they actually have. So, we’re here to help you understand the difference between various kinds of carpet. Let’s start, though, by defining carpet pile. Basically, when we talk about a carpet pile, we’re talking about the actual fibers of the carpet and their construction – how they’re looped/woven together and so on. So without further ado, here are the major pile types that carpet cleaning companies find in most homes:

Textured Saxony: This carpet pile is made of of two or more fibers twisted into one yarn-like fiber. It has a soft texture and is used in many rooms – usually informal ones.

Saxony Plush: With this carpet pile, the fibers are not actually twisted or woven, they stick up out of the backing. It has a very soft, velvet-like surface and is most often used in formal living areas.

Frieze: This pile is made up of highly twisted, yarn like fibers that curl at the surface. It’s pretty informal in use and often is found in high traffic areas due to its ability to hide footprints.

Loop Pile: Rather than individual fibers, like the various cut pile carpet types above, loop pile carpets are made up of fibers that loop back into the backing. These are very durable and are are often seen in high traffic areas.

Berber Pile: Berber piles are generally made up of a thicker yarn with a very tight loops. Berbers are very durable, but can retain more dirt. Usually used in rooms and areas that receive a lot of traffic.

Combination: These pile types will combine various aspects of different piles to get new plush levels and new patterns.

Of course, each of these carpet types have variables – various heights, thicknesses, etc. – but all of them can be made to look clean and soft thanks to Oxi Fresh’s green carpet cleaning. So, when ever you need your carpets cleaned, just give us a call and we’ll come, whether it’s berber or saxony

I am beyond satisfied. We have owned the house for a few months and we inherited dirty carpets. I see a great difference between the before and after photos of the carpet. Abdul did a very good job. He paid good attention to what we needed done and he selflessly did it very nicely. He also communicated what he was doing and why he was doing it. Then he advised how often we can do the cleaning as well as other products they have that we can try. I wasn’t expecting this much of a difference but I finally feel like this is my home, so clean and fresh. Got me singing “it’s beginning to smell a lot like clleeeeeaann carpets lol”. Thank you Abdul. Thank you oxifresh. JA. - Troy, IL - 11/05/2023
