Oxi Fresh’s Tips: Removing the Sneaker Stink
Oxi Fresh erases a lot of bad smells, from pet urine to smoke odors. One thing we don’t specialize in, however, is stinky sneakers.
Thankfully, there are dozens of tips online that can help you save your shoes!
Tip 1: Use the Sun
One of the best ways to fight odor is to use the free, natural power of the sun. Open up your shoes and let them sit in the sunlight. It dries them out and keeps bacteria down.
Tip 2: Baking Soda
Put a few scoops of baking soda in your shoes and let them sit overnight (make sure you vacuum them out after the fact). If the shoes have a particularly bad stink, you can repeat this process multiple times.
Tip 3: Cedar Insoles
Cedar wood is a natural anti-fungal, making it an ideal anti-odor tool. Use these every night to help prevent odors from forming.
Tip 4: Fabric Softener Sheets
These little sheets have two big benefits. First, they’ll absorb some of the moisture in the shoe. Second, they’ll release a lovely little smell that can cover up some of the stink.
Tip 5: Vinegar and Water
If you want to get aggressive, try mixing vinegar and water 1:1 and spritzing the inside of your shoes. This homemade cleaner can kill off some smells, but you should let the shoe air-dry for 30 minutes after the fact and follow this up with Tip 2.
Bonus Tip: Cycle It!
If you have more than one pair of shoes, try to rotate between them regularly so they have time to dry out. This downtime should be a big help in keeping odors from forming in the first place.
