Spooky Carpet Stains: Chocolate
With Halloween comes trick-or-treating. With trick-or-treating comes candy. With candy comes sugar-high kids and the very real chance of chocolate stains on your carpet.
If that happens in your home, don’t get spooked. We’ve got a great trick to make that stain disappear.
What You’ll Need
Rubbing Alcohol
Rubber Gloves
Clean, White Terrycloth or Microfiber Towels
Colorless Laundry Detergent
Spoon
Spray bottle
Let’s Get Cleaning
– Step 1 –
Use a spoon to scoop up as much of the chocolate as possible. Make sure you scoop upwards and towards the center of the spot.
– Step 2 –
Put on your rubber gloves and dampen a towel with some rubbing alcohol. Blot the spot, starting from the outside edge and moving toward the center. Regularly switch to a clean part of the towel as you go, so you don’t spread the chocolate around.
Repeat this step until no more of the chocolate comes up, but use very carefully controlled amounts of rubbing alcohol.
IMPORTANT: Alcohol is not a carpet-friendly product. Test it on an inconspicuous part of the floor to make sure it won’t cause color loss or transfer before using it. Do not use it on carpets made of natural fibers.
– Step 3 –
In a bowl of warm water, mix your colorless detergent (1/4 teaspoon to 1 liter of water).
– Step 4 –
Dampen a towel with the solution and blot the spot, starting from the outside edge and moving towards the center. Regularly switch to a clean part of the towel as you go, so you don’t spread the chocolate around.
Repeat this step until no more of the chocolate comes up.
– Step 5 –
Rinse the area with water from the spray bottle and then blot it dry. Continue doing this until you’ve removed all the soap residue.
And there you go! That tricky chocolate stain should be gone and your carpets should be looking nice and clean once more. Now it’s time to find the little monster (or ghoul) that left their candy bar on the carpet!
