Step 1
As with all stains, you want to act fast. Use a spoon to remove any nail polish still on the carpet, scooping up and towards the center of the spot. Make sure you don’t spread the stain around.
Step 2
Blot at the spot with a clean towel to remove more of the stain. Make sure you blot towards the center of the spot.
Step 3
Lightly blot the spot with a damp towel. Do NOT use a lot of water for this – your goal is to keep the stain from drying out.
Step 4
Put some nail polisher remover on a clean towel and blot the spot. Frequently swap to different parts of the towel as you go so you don’t spread the polish around.
IMPORTANT: Nail polish remover is not a carpet-friendly product, especially if it has acetone. Test it on an inconspicuous part of the floor to make sure it won’t cause color loss or transfer before using it.
Step 5
Once you aren’t getting out any more nail polish, put some rubbing alcohol on a clean towel and blot the spot. Frequently swap to different parts of the towel as you go so you don’t spread the polish around.
IMPORTANT: Alcohol is not a carpet-friendly product. Test it on an inconspicuous part of the floor to make sure it won’t cause color loss or transfer before using it.
Step 6
Once you aren’t getting out any more nail polish, mix a small amount of dish soap with warm water, dampen a towel, and thoroughly blot the area.
Step 7
Dampen a towel with water and blot the area to remove all the soapy residue. You may need to do this several times to fully remove the residue.
